So for ages I've been telling myself I do not need a new highlighter. You've got Mac's Mineralise skin finish in Soft and Gentle, Benefit's Watt's up, and so on and so fourth. The list is endless to be honest. Yet I was still telling myself I really needed Nars Copacabana. After toying with this idea for quite some time, I decided I would attempt to find a dupe for it, and if I couldn't, then I'd purchase Copacabana. Seems fair, right? I didn't have high hopes in all honesty, but strolling through Boots last week and this cute little pearlescent bottle caught my eye. Hocus Focus.
I did the standard, test on back of hand, give it a little pat to see how blendable it is, (is blendable a word?!) before swiftly making an impulse decision to buy it. When I got it home and tried it, I definitely wasn't disappointed. It comes in a compact little bottle with a screw top, and you simply squeeze the bottle to retrieve the product. My only bug bare with this highlighter is that it does come out quite quickly when you squeeze it so you have to be really careful to avoid wasting any. However the good thing is a little bit goes a long way. I literally needed less than a pea size on the back of my hand, and blended this upwards along the top of my cheek bones.
The milky texture of this product is dreamy, really soft and easy to blend. considering it is a liquid highlighter it doesn't leave your skin feeling wet when applied as some liquid products do, just the perfect amount of shimmer. I also used Hocus Focus on my brow bone, giving it that extra illumination and helping to accentuate the arch of my brows. I am keen to try this product mixed with my foundation as it suggests on the bottle, claiming to soft the flaws when doing so. I will get back to you on this haha.
Although I cannot officially say this is the perfect dupe for Nars Copacabana as I haven't yet tried that product, I definitely think from the numerous testers I have tried that it is a close call and at a fraction of the price. Maybe if I do end up purchasing Copacabana (likely) I could do a comparison post. Let me know in the comments if you'd like to see that.
The next product I purchased from Boots (let's be honest, it's never only one, is it?!) was the Soap and Glory Lid Stuff palette in What's Nude. I picked this up as I have fairly big brown eyes, and lately I have been enjoying playing around with very neutral brown/nude shadows. My favourite go-to palette at the moment has been the Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 palette. I picked this up in New York in November and have hit pan on at least three shades already *sobs*. As I'm aware, that repurchasing this palette in the UK would set me back around £23, I decided to keep my eyes peeled for a dupe. Obviously when I saw this palette I immediately got that excited feeling of when you think you may have found something you're going to love, and rightly so. I LOVE this palette. Yes, I love it.
The shades in this quad are; Vanilla - a really matte, pigmented ivory shade
Pink T - a dull baby pink shade engraved with the S&G logo (nice touch)
Mudhoney - a matte chocolate brown shade
Aubersheen - a metallic bronze shimmer shade
The pigmentation on all of these shades is fantastic. I'm always weary as far as matte eye shadows go, thinking they will always fade easily and not have much staying power. I was oh so wrong. These shades do exactly what they claim to on the back of the quad, stay put for 8 hours. They were really long lasting and they definitely didn't crease or start to fade. With 3 matte shades and one shimmer, I would highly recommend this palette if you are new to make up or even just if the Naked Basics 2 palette is a little over budget.
Slightly different post from me today, let me know in the comments if there are any posts in particular you'd like me to do, or if you've tried any of the products mentioned in today's post. Again, future posts will have more pictures I'm just having a few issues getting them up.
